Articulating Vision
September 12, 2013

I attended The Leadership Challenge International Conference. Trainers, consultants, and companies engaged with the timeless work of The Leadership Challenge gathered from all over the world in Scottsdale, Arizona. It was a great two days of sharing and learning at the knee of Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner, the authors of the leadership best seller.

The subject that stuck with me most and became my biggest takeaway was about vision. There are 4 steps to help with articulating vision:

1)     Reflect on the Past

2)     Attend to the Present

3)     Prospect the Future

4)     Feel your own passion

You, like me, may find that it is easier to envision the future once you have reflected on your past. Try performing this interesting exercise: plot your life over the last 20-30 years with the highs and lows of life – we have all had great highs and lows. I hope this makes it infinitely easier to attend to the present and see with clarity the future with great passion once I reflected on my past. If you are interested in learning more about this exercise email me and I will explain this subject further.
